Cultivate Kaua'i

Living on one of the most isolated islands on earth definitely has its benefits. Kaua‘i is blessed with abundant freshwater, beautiful living oceans, comfortable year-round weather, and a host of friendly people. But when crafting an exquisite meal, you might discover a seemingly odd problem: finding access to fresh local food. With perfect growing conditions year round it would seem like Kaua‘i would have an abundance of vibrant, local produce available. Although there are many farms on island, most of them are limited in size and resources needed to sell to larger buyers, such as hotels, restaurants and grocers. That’s where the idea for Cultivate sprouted.

Two young entrepreneurs, Katie Paul and Laura Kinney, saw an opportunity to bring together Kaua‘i’s small family farms to create large enough orders for buyers, and at the same time offer chefs exceptionally fresh produce picked on the day of the delivery. Cultivate creates one-stop shopping for chefs while enabling farmers to focus on what they love doing best – growing veggies.

If you’re looking to taste some of the fresh island produce that Cultivate delivers, look no further than your favorite local restaurant. Cultivate produce is featured at locavores as Roys, Josselin’s Tapas Bar and Grill, Red Salt, 22 North, Hukilau Lanai, The Tavern, Nanea’s at the Westin, the St. Regis, BarAcuda, and many more. And the chefs all agree on one thing: Local means fresh, and fresh means picked at peak ripeness, bursting with a flavor that only comes from well-nourished soil, sparkling clean water, sunshine, healthy growing methods, and love. It means produce naturally suited for Kaua‘i, chosen for scintillating flavors, aesthetics and cooking qualities rather than durability for shipping. And most importantly to Paul and Kinney, it offers support for this generation of farmers on island, and for the next generation to come.
